Kelly and Dave purchased their home 18 years ago, shortly before they got married. They were initially attracted to the fact that it was an affordable detached home in an up-and-coming neighbourhood that had great proximity to transit for easy commutes to work. Fast forward to now, they’ve got two teenage boys who have completely taken over the house. Years of wear and tear on the home are evident leaving it feel more like a temporary space than a warm and welcoming one. Dave believes that now is the time to finally make a move. He always saw this house as their starter home, and not their forever, and wants to move onto something bigger and better so they can finally host family and friends the way he wants to. Kelly is extremely risk adverse and the idea of taking on a larger mortgage frightens her. She believes that this house can still serve their family well – she just needs guidance on figuring out what to do with it. Page takes on the challenge of a renovation with a tight budget and a few surprises, while David must contend with Kelly and Dave's very different views on what they should spend on a new home for their family.
