Young, vivacious and ambitious, five Canadian women who have just entered the opening act of their adult lives. The world is full of opportunity and potential. Exciting careers, new loves and young families form the groundwork for a life that is full and rewarding.
Clare (35) is a happily married teacher and mother, Crystal (34) is a vibrant casting director and mother of a three year old, Janelle (30) is planning the wedding of her dreams, Sylvia (25) is a young world traveler trying to find her passion and she dabbles in modeling, and Claudia (24) is a recent graduate, newly engaged and looking forward to starting a career, marriage and having children. At an age when most of their peers are enjoying all that life has to offer, these young women are facing a demon that they didn’t expect to worry about for many years – breast cancer. And these young women are more likely to die of their disease.
“The biology of the disease is different in younger women. Their cancers tend to be bigger, more advanced, higher stage, and more likely to relapse either in the breast or distant organs.” (Dr. Ellen Warner, Medical Oncologist, Sunnybrook Health Sciences)
A diagnosis of breast cancer in your twenties or early thirties is unexpected and devastating. It takes over, and quickly consumes every aspect of a woman’s life. But what happens when you’ve got so many other things to do – dating, marriage, school, careers, pregnancy, children?
“I DON’T HAVE TIME FOR THIS!” is a documentary film about five courageous and tenacious young women who will not let breast cancer get in the way of their lives – they simply don’t have time for it! They’ve got too much to live for. Lumpectomies, mastectomies, chemotherapy, radiation, egg extraction, treatment schedules, menopause – who’s got the time?
“I DON’T HAVE TIME FOR THIS!” follows each woman’s personal journey as she attempts to rediscover her sense of self in the shadow of a heartbreaking diagnosis. They’ll agonize over major life decisions, such as whether to freeze eggs in the hopes of one day becoming a mother. They’ll rejoice in the small attempts to normalize their lives, such as finally feeling sexy again by shopping for specialized lingerie. Although their health concerns are unique, “I DON’T HAVE TIME FOR THIS” is the universal story of young women building their lives despite the challenges thrown their way. At times lighthearted and humorous, at times utterly heartbreaking, this character driven documentary film will engage viewers on a truly emotional ride
